NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY WEBSITE ONLY, and is meant as a stopgap until the Main Website has been updated. Some of the notes are incomplete and many of the links will not work. There is still much data to add and conflicts to settle.

This tree has been compiled with the help of many contributors. Sincere thanks to all, and apologies to those whose information has not yet been added.

I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist. Individuals with uncertain details have a (see notes) label attached to their name.

If photos exist, they will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. Scrapbooks can only contain a limited amount of text so I am now adding more presentable feature pages containing notes, photos and links. These pages are shown to the right of their Scrapbooks, but are presently very few. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You will have to use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.

Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically filtered out of the Tree, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

Elizabeth Hannah Wood

Elizabeth is reported here, to be a sister of Sarah Chafey Banger, but the Elizabeth referred to appears to be Elizabeth Hannah Wood, who married Thomas Butler at Southampton in 1844. However, this Elizabeth's father was named as Daniel Wood.
Thomas Butler died a few years after their daughter, Sarah Ann Butler was born. This young girl was then taken in by John & Sarah Hibidage. This girl also had a sister, Angelina Fanny Butler, who was adopted by Sarah Hibidage's daughter, Angelina, and given the surname of Lance.

This confusion is yet to be resolved.

One theory is that Elizabeth's father, John Banger, died and her mother, Hannah, married Daniel Wood in 1816. See below:

Sarah Ann Butler

ABODES:
c.1852 ..... Clapton, Middlesex. (birth - 1871 Census Bournemouth)
1871 ..... 3 Dorset Place, Commercial Road, Bournemouth (1871 Census Bournemouth)

Summary of CREEKE v BUTLER (March 1881)

Sarah Ann Butler was the daughter of Sarah Chaffey X's sister. When her father, Thomas Butler, died she was still very young and moved in with John & Sarah Hibidage. After a while she took over the duties previously taken by Angelina, (Sarah Chaffey X's daughter by a previous marriage).

John made his first will in May 1873 leaving £200 to Sarah. He later made several codices to the will. Finally, in December 1879, leaving her 5 houses, including Linwood House, to the value of £7000.

When Angelina's husband, Thomas Lance, died, towards the end of 1879, she moved back with John & Sarah. Very soon after this John became ill.

In January 1880 John appointed Christopher Crabb Creeke and a Miss Elizabeth Banger to make a new will changing his gift to Sarah Ann Butler to just £1000, leaving the rest to his wife & Angelina.

In the court case witnesses were called to check the signatures. Miss Banger and other witnesses said that Sarah, who also helped John with his book keeping, caused disagreements between John & Sarah.

The jury decided that the latest will made on 4th February 1880 was genuine.

Dorothy E. Heath

ABODES .......... 1961? (Dennis's death)

The Birches, St. John's Road, Hedge End.

Dorothy was an active member of various Church organisationsand the Mother's Union.

A letter from Dorothy Gibson/Heath (a great granddaughter of Mary Ann Smith/Pidgley/Kilcher, to Dorothy Bayford/Harris who shares the same great grandparents.

Dear Dorothy, A few details for you - at last! I haven't given up yet! As soon as winter is over, and the weather improves, I'm hoping to make a trip to a church in the New Forest to find out if it is true that our maternal great step grandfather is buried there. My mother always said that her mother was born on the Isle of Wight. Her father William Pidgley, was lost at sea. Her mother remarried a George Kitcher and moved to a farm in the New Forest. There were at least 3 daughters of the Pidgley family I knew aunt Lizzie whose married name was Phillips and lived at Lymington. There was also, I believe, a sister called Rose of whom I know nothing. Some of the family lived in the Stockbridge area. I know nothing of the Kitcher family except that he was a heavy drinker. This old lady rode horses and had commoners rights of grazing cattle in the New Forest. She lived to be quite old, apparently her second husband had a riding accident and was an invalid for some time before he died.

I once wrote to Binstead on the Isle of Wight but there were no records of the family there and we could find nothing in the Bishops Transcripts at the Records Office. I suppose I could write to the Admiralty as William Pidgley was a seaman.

Hope you are all well, we are not too bad! Weather has been very bad but so far we have escaped flu!! I've been having treatment for high blood pressure since a toe operation last August - which is a nuisance!

All the best to you all from Dorothy and family.

At Denny Lodge, Hampshire, UK

Dennis Robert Gibson

Died in motorbike accident in Binbrook, Lincs. 11 Jan 1961?

Dennis, who was 21, attended Hedge End Primary School and County School until he was 17 and then entered the R.A.F. School at Cosford, Wolverhampton, and trained as a radar mechanic. He was posted to 64 Squadron R.A.F. at Duxford and after a
short spell of duty in Cyprus returned to Lincolnshire.

Before entering the R.A.F. Dennis was a member of the A.T.C. and cycled from Hedge End to Bishops Waltham every week for meetings. He was keen on model aircraft and while at Hedge End Secondary School was a member of the Field Club and was
very keen on hiking.
