NOTE: This tree is a "work in progress". Many of the notes are incomplete and some links will not work correctly, especially when inside a Scrapbook. I still have much data to add and apologise to those contributors whose information has not yet been added. My sincere thanks to all.

I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist or conflict with other sources. Individuals with uncertain details have a (See Notes) label attached to their name.

Any photos will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. These allow only a limited amount of text so I will be adding feature pages containing more detailed notes, photos and links. These will appear at the right of the Scrapbook links. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You can use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.

Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically excluded, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

Official LDS records show a Jane Maria Grant as daughter of John Peter Grant and Henrietta Isabella Phillipa born 13 Mar 1840, Christened 9 Jun 1840 St Marylebone, London. This appears to be Henrietta Isabella Phillipa Chicheley Plowden who married Sir John Peter Grant in Scotland on 16 Feb 1835. However, they had a daughter, Jane Maria Grant in 1860. Philippa "Pippa" Strachey

Suffragist

Giles Lytton Strachey

Known as Lytton Strachey, he was the eleventh child out of thirteen of Sir Richard and Lady Jane Strachey. He was named after his godfather, the first earl of Lytton, viceroy of India.

He was educated at Leamington College, Liverpool University and Trinity College, Cambridge where he became a member of the Apostles and enjoyed the friendship of many well known literary artists.

After winning the Chancellor's Medal for "Ely: An Ode", he wrote a witty collection of biographies, published in 1918 as "Eminent Victorians". His ironic studies of well known Victorians brought a fresh approach and changed the style of biography writing. He was later awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for "Queen Victoria, published 1921.

He also reviewed books, and was a drama critic for the Spectator, edited by his cousin John St. Loe Strachey.

As his fame and wealth grew, he bought "Ham Spray", a large country house near Hungerford, Berkshire, which he shared with the painter Dora Carrington, her husband, ex-officer Ralph Partridge, and his lover Frances Marshall.
