NOTE: This tree is a "work in progress". Many of the notes are incomplete and some links will not work correctly, especially when inside a Scrapbook. I still have much data to add and apologise to those contributors whose information has not yet been added. My sincere thanks to all.

I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist or conflict with other sources. Individuals with uncertain details have a (See Notes) label attached to their name.

Any photos will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. These allow only a limited amount of text so I will be adding feature pages containing more detailed notes, photos and links. These will appear at the right of the Scrapbook links. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You can use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.

Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically excluded, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

Notes

Rev. Walter Wren Driffield

Reverend Walter Wren Driffield was Rector at Southchurch, Essex and Erwarton, Suffolk, and curate at Feering for 50 years, where he was a family friend of the artist, John Constable. The artist is recorded on a visit to Hadleigh Castle, near Southend, Essex, in June 1814, during a stay with his friend the Revd Walter Wren Driffield at Feering. Letters from Walter to Constable's wife can be found, along with a detailed history of the Driffield family from 1537 to 1903, at the Patriot Library

Extract from: http://www.feering.org.uk/village_history.htm
John Constable stayed in Feering on several occasions with the Rev Walter Wren Driffield (who had christened him at East Bergholt in the middle of the night when he had not been expected to live) at what was the Vicarage until the 1950’s and now Drummonds. Constable did several drawings while staying there including one of the church porch and another depicted the Vicarage with the grass being rolled. It was appropriate therefore that when the Constable painting of The Risen Christ was sold by Manningtree Church that it came to Feering Church where it was hung in the Lady Chapel until recently when it was sold to pay for a new heating system. It is now in Dedham Church.

NOTE: Rev. Walter Wren Driffield was Rector of Erwarton, Suffolk in Feb 1773. This is about the time that his assumed son, Rev. Charles George Thomas Driffield, was born, so it is likely that Charles was born there.

He took his BA degree in 1767 being tenth junior optime in the mathematical tripos and MA in 1770. He was ordained Deacon on the 1st and Priest on the 4th January 1767, by the Bishop of Norwich at Park Street Chapel, near Governor Square, Westminster and the Chapel Royal Royal, St James's Westminster respectively.

Frederick Simeon Carus Driffield

Frederick emigrated to Australia in March 1849, and began an unsuccessfull milling business near Adelaide. He then followed other pursuits.

He died at Adelaide following an accident on the Railway in June 1889. He slipped whilst trying to board a moving train, and was caught between the footboard and the platform of the station. However, he managed to regain his footing, and boarded the train, arriving home without apparently being affected. The incident actually caused injuries to his chest, which consequently affected his heart and lead to his ultimate death.

His widow and their eldest child, Letitia, returned to England in June 1901.
