NOTE: This tree is a "work in progress". Many of the notes are incomplete and some links will not work correctly, especially when inside a Scrapbook. I still have much data to add and apologise to those contributors whose information has not yet been added. My sincere thanks to all.I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist or conflict with other sources. Individuals with uncertain details have a (See Notes) label attached to their name.

These allow only a limited amount of text so I will be adding feature pages containing more detailed notes, photos and links. These will appear at the right of the Scrapbook links. Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically excluded, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

1st of Rothiemurchus. Not clear which wife is mother of his children

The elder son and heir of John Grant, 2nd of Freuchie, JAMES GRANT, 3rd of Freuchie, was called Sheumas nan Creach (James of the Forays). He was retoured heir to his father in Freuchie, with its castle and fortalice and other lands, in 1536 and 1539. On 24 July 1543 he was one of those who signed the Secret Bond by Cardinal Beaton and others, which was directed against the designs of "our awld enymyis of Ingland" against Queen Mary and the Queen-Regent. He was made Bailie (effectively the chief magistrate of its barony) of the Abbey of Kinloss before 20 June 1544.
In 1545, with consent of the dean and chapter of Moray, the lands of Knockando , Glencumrie, and Brodland, in the parish of Knockando, were granted by Alexander Douglas, Chaplain of St. Andrews (Knockando) to James Grant of Freuchie and Christian Barclay, his spouse. On 27 July 1545 he purchased the lands of Estir Urquhil (Easter Urquhart) and Cantradoun, within the barony of Clawach (Clava), in the sheriffdom of Nairn. On 2 3 April 1545, at Elgin, he excambed (exchanged) the lands of Easter Urquhart and others with Alexander Dolas of Cantray for the lands of Rothiemurchus. On 4 May 1548 Queen Mary granted him various lands in Lochalsh and Lochcarron. James died 26 August 1553 at Freuchie (today Castle Grant) and was buried by his own testamentary direction in the Parish Church of Duthil. He married, first , Elizabeth Forbes, daughter of John, 6th Lord Forbes; and, secondly, Christian Barclay, who survived him and married 2ndly Arthur Forbes of Balfour.

Built the great Tower of Kincairdy Castle. Received his Knighthood in 1438. "said to be alive in 1438 and died before 1456 & to have married Euphaine(?) daughter of Hugh of Fraser 1st. Lord Lovat" CEI Ane Account of the Familie of Innes, page 13 quotes as follows: " by John Lindesay of Byers, son of Sir William the Lindesay, Knight, to Janette of Aberchirder and Walter of Innes, her sone, upon all annualrents or superiority that was formerly due to him or his, forth of the lordship of Aberchirder, excepting the superiority and following of Cromy, &c. This charter is in broad Scots, daited at Edinburgh the xvi day of January 1426."
