NOTE: This tree is a "work in progress". Many of the notes are incomplete and some links will not work correctly, especially when inside a Scrapbook. I still have much data to add and apologise to those contributors whose information has not yet been added. My sincere thanks to all.

I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist or conflict with other sources. Individuals with uncertain details have a (See Notes) label attached to their name.

Any photos will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. These allow only a limited amount of text so I will be adding feature pages containing more detailed notes, photos and links. These will appear at the right of the Scrapbook links. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You can use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.

Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically excluded, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

The Fripp family of South Carolina

Notes

William Benjamin Fripp

The book "Tombee" also has a daughter Ann Chaplin Fripp, but she is not shown in the bible of William & Eliza. It is possible that she was a child of William's second wife. However, she is not shown on the 1850 or 60 census below.

Elizabeth Hann Fripp

South Carolina Historical & Genealogical Magazine Vol xxxiv no 2 April, 1932:

Doctor Berners Barnwell Sams/ who was born on the 26th of May A.D. 1787/ and departed this life on the 16th of March A.D. 1855

Mrs. Elizabeth Hann Sams/ who departed this life on the 16th of March 1831/ aged 35 years 5 months and 26th days/

NOTE: If Elizabeth's date of birth is calculated using the above it gives her birth as 20 Sep 1795. This is 10 years different to her other source also in SCHGM, which has birth 19 Oct 1785 and bap 3 Sep 1786, both on St. Helena Island, Beaufort, SC.

It is noted that Thomas' brother, William, had a son Thomas Hann Fripp, who was baptised on the same day (3 Sep 1786), so this would appear to be correct. Perhaps Elizabeth Hann was baptised in 1786, but died in infancy, then another was born 10 years later.

It is also possible that her parents were Thomas Fripp and Martha FRIPP.

Hamilton Fripp

Some reports show Hamilton died 1840.

NOTE: The South Carolina Historical Society Magazine, Vol. 23, p.71; has the following entries:

Fripp, (no name or gender) bapt. by Rev: Hicks, The Father & Mr. John McKee & wife sureties.
Fripp, Henrietta Caroline, Da. of Hamilton & Elizabeth
Fripp, Hamilton, Sn. of Hamilton & Elizabeth, bapt. Fer'ry 21, 1809

The entries are followed with a comment "To be continued"

THOUGHTS:
1, The first child could be John McKee Fripp, although if the entries are in chronological order, the date of birth would be wrong.
2, Caroline could have been misread for Seraphine.
3, Father may have added or dropped the name "John" at some time.

1830 Census (1st June): St Helena Parish, South Carolina
Head of House: Mrs. Hamilton Fripp (Husband, John Hamilton Fripp, died 2 years earlier)
1 male 5-10
1 male 10-15
1 male 15-20 (Probably John McKee Fripp - Son)

1 female 15-20
1 female 30-40
1 female 40-50 (Probably Elizabeth McKee - widow Mrs. Hamilton Fripp)
1 female 50-60

Harriet Fripp

Harriet probably married before 1st Jun 1830, as she is not with her father on the census below.
1830 Census (1st June): St Helena Parish, South Carolina
I. Perry Fripp - Head of Household (known as Perry Fripp)
1 male 10-15 (Probably Perry or William - Sons)
1 male 15-20 (Probably James Fripp - Son)
1 male 20-30 (Probably Edward - Son)
1 male 50-60 (Isaac Perry Fripp - Head)
NOTE: No females shown, so wife was probably deceased and Eliza & Harriett possibly married.

John Hamilton Fripp

John was better known by his middle name, Hamilton Fripp, but it is not known who he inherited this name from. The maiden name of his grandmother, Martha, seems to be accepted as JENKINS, even though her marriage to John Fripp Jr has never been found. Some trees also give her maiden name as Elmes. However, it seems equally plausible that her maiden name could have been HAMILTON.

Children of John & Elizabeth: The South Carolina Historical Society Magazine, Vol.
