NOTE: This tree is a "work in progress". Many of the notes are incomplete and some links will not work correctly, especially when inside a Scrapbook. I still have much data to add and apologise to those contributors whose information has not yet been added. My sincere thanks to all.I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist or conflict with other sources. Individuals with uncertain details have a (See Notes) label attached to their name.

Brig. Gen. Francis Hopkins of the Georgia Militia and prominient citizen of McIntosh county in the early 1800s, was born near Bluffton, S. C., the only child of his parents, Francis Hopkins and wife Mary Martinangel. The elder
Francis was a Loyalist in the Revolutionary War and served in the British Navy under Sir Peter Parker and died at Charlotte Amalie, Island of St. Thomas, West Indies, in 1780; his wife, Mary, was born Dec. 16, 1745, and was a daughter of Capt. Phillip Martinangel of the loyal South Carolina militia in the Revolution, who was assassinated by the "Bloody Legion" in Dec. 1781; Capt. Martinangel's wife was Mary Foster of S. C.Francis Hopkins, the subject, was married in April, 1794, to Rebecca Sayre, born March 1776, in S. C., daughter of Jeremiah Sayre (from Elizabeth, N. J.) and his wife Elizabeth Fripp Green of Hilton Head Island, S. C. They had eleven children, viz:

2. Mary Martinangel Hopkins - b. Mar. 10, 1796, died 1808.
3. Francis Hopkins III - b. Nov. 10, 1798, died single 1847.
4. Benjamin Hopkins - b. Jan. 4, 1802, m. Susan Floyd, Feb. 28, 1822, dau. of Gen. John.
5. Georgia Hopkins - b. Nov. 11, 1803, m. 1st. Don Josef Mulvey,Spanish Consul at Darien, March, 1828; 2nd. Capt. Robert Day, Apr. 29, 1834.
6. William Proctor Hopkins - b. Jan. 23, 1805, m. Malinda Isabelle Floyd, dau. of Gen. John.
7. Edward Stevens Hopkins - b. Feb. 11, 1809, m. Mary Evelina Dufour, 1832, dau. of Lewis.
8. Charles Harris Hopkins - b. July 6, 1812, m. Mary Givens of Beaufort, S. C., May 1, 1834.
9. Elizabeth Hopkins - b. Nov. 11, 1815, died 1818.
10. Thomas Spalding Hopkins - b. Dec. 15, 1818, m. Ist. Julia Mary Dufour, dau. of Lewis; 2nd. Jane Elizabeth Gignilliat, Nov. 4, 1847.

Francis Hopkins, was born near Bluffton, in 1772. Before the revolutionary storm broke Francis Hopkins, wife and child, removed to the West Indies, where he died in 1780. The mother and son returned to Daufuskie Island and in the first census of the United States, that of 1790, Francis Hopkins, aged eighteen, appears as the head of the family of two, his widowed mother and himself, in the Beaufort district.
In April, 1794, he married Rebecca Sayre, daughter of Benjamin Sayre, formerly of Elizabeth, N.J., and Elizabeth Fripp, of Hilton Head, S. C. They lived with his mother on a large plantation on May river until the terrible storm of 1804, which wrought great destruction to property along the coast.
Soon after this, his friend, Thomas Spalding, of McIntosh county, persuaded him to move with his family to that section of Georgia. Among the children he brought with him was the oldest, John Livingston Hopkins, born near Bluffton in 1795.
Francis was a Loyalist in the Revolutionary War and served in the British Navy under Sir Peter Parker. He died at Charlotte Amalie, Island of St. Thomas, West Indies, in 1780.
NOTE: Some trees show he was born 27 Feb 1737 at St Peters Parish, New Kent Co, Virginia, and died 25 Jun 1804 , Bedford, Virginia.
It is not yet fully proven that this is the same John who was the son of David and Mary McKee, born 1760, but it is very likely.

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Martha Barns the following negroes: vis Tom, Betty, Pegg, Jack, Beck, Ishmael, Prince, Judy, little Maria, with their issue and increase to her and the heirs of her body forever; as also a sixth part of my stock and three hundred pounds in cash. ITEM I give and bequeath to my loving son John McKee the following negroes: viz.
